The Week in Review

Puerto Rico, this week

Read the full week

Puerto Rico's water supply situation continued to deteriorate through the week as the Carraízo reservoir steadily declined, moving deeper into what officials classify as the "ajustes" band. Levels dropped from 37.26 meters down to 37.07 meters over the course of the week, falling between 4 and 7 centimeters each day.

The reservoir's cushion above the control line shrank accordingly, from 0.26 meters at the start of the tracking period to just 0.07 meters by the most recent reading. At the current pace of decline, that buffer represents roughly one day's worth of supply, down sharply from an estimated 6.5 days earlier in the week.

Partway through the week, La Plata also entered the ajustes band, joining Carraízo as a reservoir under closer monitoring. The consistent day-over-day drops across all four reports point to a sustained downward trend rather than a single-day fluctuation, with the shrinking days-at-current-pace estimate suggesting the situation was intensifying as the week progressed.
